Arik Airline Pay Cut
Arik Airline Staff members will be feeling the adverse effect of the Coronavirus pandemic and the lockdown starting from April with the management’s resolve to cut salaries by 80 per cent.
The airline’s Chief Executive Officer, Roy Ilegbodu in an internal memo informed them of the massive pay cut and also hinted that about 90 per cent of the workforce would have to embark on indefinite leave without pay starting from the 1st of May, 2020.
It would be recalled that the Coronavirus pandemic has forced the unfortunate global suspension of both local and international flights.
Ilegbodu in the memo balmed the hard decision taken by the Arik airline on the Coronavirus pandemic which has placed the airline’s economy in a tight corner.
According to him, the income of the company has recorded a 98 per cent drain plus the uncontrollable fall in the value of Naira compared to the Dollars.
Ilegbodu also stressed on the future of the industry “the outlook for the near future is not encouraging and our current level of business simply cannot support our operations for much longer.”
“For this reason, to safeguard the survival of our organization, we are constrained to introduce additional measures to curtail our costs, as dictated by the turn of events.
“After careful deliberation and analyses, management has decided to implement an 80% pay cut for all members of staff across the entire organization for the month of April 2020. Furthermore, commencing from May 1st 2020, no less than 90% of our staff will proceed on leave without pay until further notice.”
