The management of an Airline company in Nigeria, Arik Air has sacked 300 staff members of the company, noting that the workers were redundant.
In a statement made available on Friday, the airline company blamed the decision on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the company, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic led to the constrained ability of the airline to complete heavy maintenance activities and return its planes to operations.
It added that the COVID-19 impact also stunted revenues against increasing operational costs.
Meanwhile, the company explained that a redundancy package would be provided for the affected workers with the help of the aviation unions.
Everyevery.ng had earlier reported that the Senate has expressed displeasure over what it described as Federal Government’s failure to produce a plan for the procurement of COVID-19 vaccines for Nigerians.
However, the upper chamber urged the government to make sufficient funds available for the purchase of the vaccines.
It was gathered that the Senate directed its Committee on Health and Primary Health Care to summon the Ministries of Health and Finance, as well as the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 and other relevant agencies for their plans.
