Argentina secured a first-place spot as they beat Uruguay 1-0 at the Copa America thanks to a winner from Guido Rodriguez. Rodriguez, who was making his first start for his country since June 2019, headed in off a post early on following a cross from their skipper Lionel Messi.

Uruguay had a penalty appeal by striker Edinson Cavani turned down as they failed to register a shot on target in their opening match of the tournament. The win for Argentina win means they are now joint top leaders with Chile in Group A with four points.
After the match, Argentina midfielder Rodrigo de Paul said they deserved the victory. According to him, he said: “We tried to be more compact, to make it more difficult to score against. Upfront, we have monstrous players who can get goals at any moment of the match.”
Uruguay will be playing their next game against Chile on the 21st of June, while Messi and his troop will play against Paraguay on the 22nd of June.
