ARE HOROSCOPES DOING MORE HARM THAN GOOD?

Share

I’m a little bit curious as to why or how a generation that largely resists labels and refuses to be categorised obsessively read and believe their horoscopes. According to a study, 60% of 18-24 year olds believe astrology is scientific. The study revealed that skepticism of astrology is decreasing. Indeed you don’t even have to look far online to find the strong community of young, cool, perfectly normal people who obsess over their zodiac signs. So are horoscopes actually doing more harm than good?

Personally speaking, i’ve always felt that horoscopes are cool but the rate at which people base their life decisions and everything they do on their zodiac sign is alarming. You hear people make statements like ” it’s not my fault that bad at decision-making, it’s just because i’m, Libra. Or “i can’t help being emotional right now, the full moon is cancer.”

When it says good things will happen to you. Do they really happen or coincidence perhaps? So this is it, horoscopes are really cool and fun but what about people who define themselves by that only? isn’t that too limiting?

Some people were asked why they believe in the horoscope. Someone thinks that the reason why she reads the horoscope stems from being overly superstitious. Another person stated that horoscopes are kept “so vague that they can be relevant to anyone’s life.”

If the horoscopes are valid, then i have a few questions; Who writes about the zodiac signs or do they just fall from the sky? are they always objective in their writings? What ever happened to individual differences? since they say each sign has its characteristics. So all Leos are most alike than other signs and are most compatible with the other sign. Most importantly, what happened to the room of improvement? if it states that you sign is always messy and you’re actually really organised or you change. I was shocked to find out that people even choose their significant other in accordance to what the horoscope says, regardless of how the person treats you. What do all of these mean?

I am not against horoscopes, my concern is navigated towards where we draw the line between just reading horoscopes for fun and when we take it too seriously. What are your thoughts on horoscopes? do you think they are doing more harm than good?
