The former Anderlecht player who is currently the assistant coach Zetterberg has been relieved of his duties with the club. This is as a result of the continuous rise in the COVID 19 virus in the world, the club came with the agreement that they have to reduce the work force in the team so as to help the club financially.
Zetterberg had previously played for the team and he is considered to be a club legend with Anderlecht. The decision was made because according to the club the global COVID 19 pandemic is on the increase and they need to cut out expenses to help fight the virus. The club said in a statement that: “Professional football, like most economic activities, is facing a great challenge due to the Covid-19 epidemic.”
“It’s having a major financial impact on the club’s operations. Management strive every day to prepare the club in the short term against the significant loss of income that the break brings.” “Therefore we have decided to dismiss Par Zetterberg.”
“The Swede remains a legend of the club.” Zetterberg himself was shocked by the news. “I didn’t see it coming,” he told Belgian media. “The club ended my contract without much explanation.”
According to Zetterberg, when asked about the news of his dismissal he said: “I’m not sad, but I’m disappointed.” “Do they want to save money? Were they unhappy with my work? “I have to accept it even if I don’t understand it.”
Anderlecht is not the only team that is affected with this reduction of their presonels, Sion of Switzerland have reported sack eight of their players who did not agree to lower their salaries, while Barcelona have proposed a salary reduction to their players as well.
