English Premier League top side West Ham United have completed French and Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Alphonse Areola on a season-long loan. According to the deal, the Premier League side can make the deal a permanent one at the end of the season.
28-year-old Alphonse Areola spent the whole of last season on loan at Fulham, where he won the supporters’ player of the year award. West Ham wants to provide competition for their first-choice Lukasz Fabianski before their Europa League campaign.
Speaking on his new deal, Areola said: “The Premier League is one of the best leagues in the world, so I enjoyed it last season.” He also said: “London is a great place to live and to work as well. It was tough for the team and me, but I enjoyed playing in the Premier League.”
“West Ham did a big season last year. We have a really good squad. I watched games last season, so I know the potential and the talent in this squad, so I can’t wait to start.” The France international, who was always high on manager David Moyes’ list of targets, has been with PSG since 2010.
West Ham United manager Moyes said: “Alphonse is an experienced and talented goalkeeper who has played at the highest level and performed very well in the Premier League last season.” “We have been aware of his qualities for a long time, and we have no doubt he will be another player and character who will enhance our squad.”
