Nigerian International Alex Iwobi was the hero for Frank Lampard’s relegation-threatened Everton after scoring a dramatic 99th-minute winner as 10-man Everton edged Newcastle United 1-0 at Goodison Park on Thursday night. The win saw Everton now in 17th place on 25 points go three points clear of the relegation zone.

Nine minutes into injury time, Goodison Park roared when Alex Iwobi netted the winner after driving at Newcastle’s backline, Iwobi found Dominic Calvert-Lewin whose neat flick crafted a shooting opportunity for Iwobi. The former Arsenal man shot back across Martin Dubravka who could not stop the left foot strike. It is his second Premier League goal this season for Everton after netting his first in a 2-1 defeat at Wolves on the 1st of November 2021.
Before Iwobi’s goal, one Everton player was given a red card reducing them to themen. Allan was shown and red card and sent off for a lunge. Referee Pawson initially brandished a yellow card, but after consulting the pitch-side monitor, he then upgraded it to a red card.
Allan’s sending off a couple with a protestor who came on to the pitch in the course of the game saw a whopping 14 minutes of injury time added on.
