Ladipo Market clash between soldiers and touts has left many dead, as fear grips Lagos State residents.
According to report, some witnesses at Ladipo market claimed the soldiers allegedly killed three persons; others put the figure at five.
There are different stories of what led to the clash between the soldiers and touts. Some claim the soldiers stormed the market and began to shoot aimlessly; others allege that the soldiers of Operation MESA opened fire on traders following a disagreement over an item bought from a trader.
A trader at Ladipo market who was a witness said, “We were here at our shops when soldiers came and started shooting. We all ran for our lives but, some of our brothers got killed, others got injured. What we heard was that one of the soldiers had tried to return an item he got from a shop, which was what led to the scuffle”.
Another trader, who claimed his brother was among the victims, condemned the unfair treatment meted by the security operatives.
He said, “My brother was among those killed. The operatives intentionally shot at us instead of shooting towards the sky. I even saw one of the operatives who positioned himself to get a good view of his target before taking a shot.
He added that a young boy was also among those killed.
An investigation into the incident has already commenced, according to the spokesman for Nigerian Army 81 Division, Major Olaniyi Osoba.
