Aisha Buhari, Nigeria’s First Lady, has sent a strong message to politicians and celebrities in all spheres on the issue of substance abuse in the country.
With the over alarming rate of individuals who abuse and misuse drugs in society, the First Lady was forced to draw the attention of the aforementioned to desist from glorifying behaviours that endorse the use of hard substances.
She sounded the stern warning while delivering her keynote address at the 2021 annual General Meeting/Conference of the International Society of Substance Use Professionals, ISSUP Nigeria, recently in Abuja.
The first lady was represented by her Special Assistant on African First Ladies Peace Mission, Mrs Mairo Tanko Almakura, said the conference’s theme: ‘Substance Abuse: Re-Awakening Nigerians to its Reality.’

She reiterated that they should discontinue promoting activities and content that suggest the abuse of drugs as an acceptable practice.
Mrs Buhari hinted that such practice is unsafe and unhealthy, adding the need to strengthen the country’s healthcare system.
The action, she said, if carried out, would facilitate a quick response and provide healthcare services to victims of substance abuse.
