AIR WAYS; KANO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

One of the air routes in northern part of Nigeria is the Kano International Airport. It is located in Sanni Abacha way, Kano. The airport connects with the world from the capital city of Kano, Kano State.  It is the main airport serving Northern Nigeria.It can also be called Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport. Aminu Kano whose name it bears was a politician. If you need to catch a flight to your next destination from the city of Kano then Aminu Kano International Airport is a place to be.

HISTORY

This airport is the oldest in Nigeria and the first aircraft in Nigeria landed in Kano 1922. Operations started in 1936. The airport was a Royal Air Force station before the country became independent. It is now owned by the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN). The airport has an international and domestic terminal. 

FACILITIES

The airport serves civilian and military flights. The two runways; 06/24 and 05/23 are used for the civilian and military respectively. The terminal facilities lie between the two runways. The main terminal with the control tower serves international flights and domestic services operated by Arik Air. There is a small VIP lounge for business class passengers. There is a small bar and post office in the arrivals hall. Facilities by the south side of the airport are newsstand and a small bar

AIRLINES AND DESTINATIONS

There are a long list of airlines and their destinations for passengers at the Kano International Airport. These domestic flights include; Aero Contractors (Lagos), Air Peace (Abuja/Lagos), and Azman Air (Abuja/Lagos/Gombe/Kebbi/Port Harcourt) and so on. Badir Airlines (Khartoum), Egypt Air (Cairo), Saudia  (Medina), Sudan Airways (Khartoum), Ethiopian Airlines (Addis Ababa), Dornier Aviation Nigeria (Hajj/Jeddah) and Flynas (Jeddah) and so on.  The cargo carriers are Saudia cargo (Jeddah) and Turkish Airlines cargo (Dakur-Senghor/ Istanbul-Ataturk).
