President Muhammadu Buhari has urged the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU and all unions in the educational sector to embrace dialogue.

The President urged ASUU to embrace dialogue for the development of the educational system in Nigeria.

Buhari stated this at the 2020 convocation and 72nd founding day celebration of the University of Ibadan, on Tuesday.

It was gathered that the President was represented by the Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission (NUC), Professor Abubakar Rasheed.

However, Buhari assured that the federal government would meet all agreements with unions in the educational sector.

While expressing concern over the lingering strike by the ASUU, he also appealed to the lecturers to return to their duty posts.

Meanwhile, ASUU zonal Coordinator in Abuja, Prof. Theophilus Lagi said they will continue with the strike until the government bows to the union’s demands.

According to Lagi, there is no hope in sight to ending or suspending the ASUU strike.

He also accused the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige of failing to play the role of an unbiased umpire in moderating the imbroglio.
