The Gates Foundation has again donated $70 million to the development and distribution of COVID-19 vaccines.

According to the foundation, an extra $50 million will go to the COVAX Advance Market Commitment (AMC) led by the GAVI vaccine alliance.

Also, another $20 million will go into the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) for the development of several COVID-19 vaccines.

The foundation stated its commitment to ensuring that everyone gets equal access to tests, drugs, and vaccines when they are available.

Everyevery.ng gathered that the foundation’s co-chair Melinda Gates said the pledge made on Thursday means that the resources needed to help the world fight the Coronavirus will be available soon.

Meanwhile, CEPI and GAVI alongside the World Health Organization are co-leading a global scheme known as the Access to COVID-19 Tools (ACT) Accelerator.

The scheme aims to speed up development, production, and fair access to COVID-19 drugs, tests, and vaccines.

GAVI revealed that the COVAX facility, which is part of the scheme, aims to have secured 2 billion doses of COVID-19 vaccines by the end of 2021.

The total funds donated by the Gates Foundation is now $156 million.

However, the foundation expressed optimism that other international donors would also pledge more.
