Fanendo Adi’s donation was received by the deputy governor of the state on behalf of the Executive Governor, Mr Samuel Orton. Adi is currently playing in the United States of America, he plays Major League Soccer (MLS) side, Columbus Crew SC. According to the 29-year-old forward he said it was his widow’s might to help ease the hardship which the Coronovirus Pandemic has brought on the citizens.

he also added that: “It’s indeed my humble pleasure to help these masses of Venue State in this very challenging period”, said 29-year-old forward.” “I thank God for His blessing for me to be able to help and I know this food item will surely get to the targeted vulnerable in the state.”

The Columbus Crew forward also tweeted on his Twitter handle: “I and my family are honoured and privileged to donate 2000 10kg bags of rice to @benuestategovt, during this difficult times for the vulnerable, Thanks.” Fanendo Adi brought a record in the MLS in 2017, he went into the MLS record books as the league’s all time top scorer with 46 goals. He was on the payroll of Portland Timbers at the time.

The Nigerian is also looking forward to calling into the National team as he said it would be a ‘great honour’ for him to be part of the Super Eagles set up. He was called up to the senior national team in March 2016 preparatory to the 2017 AFCON qualifier against Egypt, but he wasn’t selected for the game.

the player strongly believes that with his current form in his club he can do well if given the chance in the Super Eagles. Fanendo Adi feature was called up twice into Nigeria’s U23 Olympic Eagles squad and that was the only time he has played for the country but, he looks forward for a recall in the national team. And he believes he can compete with 21-year-old Victor Osimhen who is currently the point man for the Super Eagles.
