Access Bank to Sack 75% Staff due to post coronavirus effect on businesses and the Nigerian economy. The CEO of Access Bank, Herbert Wigwe, while addressing his employees on their employee town hall platform revealed that the bank would carry out a reduction in their staff strength.
According to him, the bank will no longer be needing as many people as it has now, especially for the non-skilled labour like security personnel.
The CEO explained that as a result of the pandemic, the bank would not be opening all its branches across the nation in the foreseeable future.
Consequentially, they will not need all the staff while giving an example with the security men and tea girls. He further revealed that discussions are ongoing to find out the best way to maximise the situation.

Speaking further about how the bank is preparing to cushion the effect of the aftermath of coronavirus, he mentioned a reduction in operational cost.
Using the salary as a focus, he mentioned that there would be pay costs across all caders in the establishment. He mentioned that he would be taking the most hit as his pay will be slashed by 40%.
In an effort to ease the minds of the employees, he mentioned that this move is in a bid to ensure that Access Bank will survive the post coronavirus era even if it means it is the only company standing in Nigeria afterwards.
He emphasised that this is in line with the economic realities facing the country at the moment and assured them that should the situation improve, the company will not hesitate to revert back to normal pay.
However, despite his efforts to explain the situations, many Nigerians are of the opinion that the bank is being hypocritical.
They explained that instead of the bank donating the sun of N1billion to the Nigerian government, it should have been plunged back into the bank for the maintenance of staff during this period.
According to some, this will still achieve the same aim of helping Nigerians through the pandemic. They said that donating the money to the government means embezzlement as it will not be given to actual Nigerians in need.
Some others believe that Nigeria is a capitalist state. Therefore the donation of N1billion by Access Bank to the government is to gain access to certain government offers.
Although the bank may have some customers who are affected by the effect of the pandemic, hence a part reason for their donation, a lot of people are currently dissatisfied to a great extent with the decision: Access Bank To Sack 75% Staff due to post coronavirus effect.
