EFCC Chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa Reveals Agenda

The Senate has confirmed Abdulrasheed Bawa as the substantive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Bawa’s nomination was confirmed after a screening exercise presided over by the Senate President, Senator Ahmad Lawan.

Everyeverys.ng gathered that about fifteen lawmakers asked him various questions, including his plans for the new position as the substantive Chairman of the EFCC.

However, he denied the allegation of selling recovered properties while heading the EFCC’s Port Harcourt office. Bawa vowed to lead by example and work with all strategic partners of the EFCC around the world for a mutual and independent objective.

He noted that the Commission would recover stolen asset for the benefit and betterment of all Nigerians.

The new EFCC Boss promised to give the young people a very good representation in the governance to be given more responsibility.

Bawa said he would contribute his quota in seeing that Nigeria is taken to a greater height.

Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, described Bawa as a brilliant young man whose nomination has generated hope for millions of Nigerian youths.

You will recall that President Muhammadu Buhari had conveyed a letter to the Senate seeking Mr Bawa’s confirmation as the EFCC boss.

Everyevery.ng had reported that the EFCC countered the report alleging that Bawa was arrested and detained by the Agency under former Chairman Ibrahim Magu.

There were reports that the EFCC arrested Bawa over the illegal sale of 244 forfeited trucks to proxies in Port Harcourt.

Wilson Uwujaren, Head, Media and Publicity, for the EFCC, said Mr Bawa was never arrested or detained over any assets’ sale.

According to Uwajaren, Bawa’s responsibilities did not include the sale of assets as the Zonal Head of the Port Harcourt Office of the Commission in 2019.

Bawa is a trained EFCC investigator with vast experience in investigating and prosecution of Advance Fee Fraud cases, official corruption, bank fraud, money laundering, and other economic crimes.
