Abba Kyari, a former Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP, would not be proceeding with his court hearing following some lapses on the part of his lawyer.
It was learnt that his counsel failed to present vital documents that would have assisted the progression of the case as Nureni Jimoh, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, told the court that he had not been served with relevant court papers.
Judging by the way things started to pan out, Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court, decided to adjourn the suit to April 27 for continuation of hearing.
However, it would be duly noted that the case is solely for the proceedings in Abba Kyari’s extradition to the United States, which was supposed to take place yesterday in Abuja at the Federal HighCourt.
Reason for Abba Kyari’s Indictment
As it is on record, Kyari, a suspended deputy commissioner of police popularly referred to as Nigeria’s super cop and former head of the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team, IRT, is mixed in allegations of wire fraud involving an Instagram celebrity, Abbas Ramon popularly known as Hushpuppi.
For his alleged investment in the aforementioned crimes, he is meant to be handed over to the United States Government for the law to take its course.
Earlier, the Attorney-General of the Federation, AGF, and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, restated that the request from the U.S. authorities is “for the surrender of Abba Alhaji Kyari, who is a subject in a superseding three counts indictment.”
