Ebonyi State is a place to visit especially if you are coming for academic purposes. The state nicknamed ‘’Salt of the nation’’ for its huge salt deposit is home to six higher institutions of learning. Ebonyi State is one of the six states created by the then military government of General Sanni Abacha. Ebonyi has over 2 million people spread in her 13 Local Government Areas. The local government areas you could visit are; Abakaliki, Afikpo North, Afikpo South, Ebonyi, Ezza North, Ezza South, Ikwo, Ishiela, Ivo, Izzi, Ohaozara, Ohaukwu and Onicha. The state capital is at Abakaliki which leads to several important places in the southeastern state.
To locate Ebonyi state through the air route, the closest airport is the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu. The neighboring state airport is named after an Ebonyi son, Akanu Ibiam. There has been plan to build Ebonyi Airport recently by the State’s government. This will help build tourism in the state.
Before heading to Ebonyi State make sure you take along with you; a hat and shades for the sunny day, camera to capture the adventures of the day and lovely sites. You have not visited the state if you do not check out the Okposi Salt Lake. On your visit, you get a firsthand experience of the traditional salt making process and how women engage in the thriving business of salt trading. Salt production has existed for about 400 years in Okposi Okwu. According to history, the trade was discovered by two hunters namely Ekwuna Chita and Uta Anoo. The salt can be bought as a souvenir here.

If you have to visit for medical purpose or as a medical personnel then the place to visit is National Obstetric Fistula Center, Abakaliki. It is located at the Abakaliki-Enugu Expressway, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State. It was formerly known as South East Fistula Center before being taken over by the Federal Government in 2011. It is a National Reference Center for management of Obstetric Fistula with mandate for provision of free treatment, training of medical paramedical personnel, rehabilitation research and prevention.
The state is known to house six tertiary institutions. You can surely further your education in one of the higher institutions of learning in the state. The institutions are; Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki (EBSU); Federal University Nufu Alikwe Ikwo (FUNAI), Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic Uwana. Other institutions include; Savannah Institute of Technology, Ishiake junction Abakaliki; Federal College of Agriculture Ishiagu, Ebonyi State College of Education Ikwo and College of Health Sciences, Ezzamgbo.
