Aṣa’s Forthcoming Album: Why We Can’t Keep Calm

The year 2019 in the Nigerian music scene is replete with album releases and anticipated album releases. From Wizkid to Simi to Kizz Daniel to Davido, even MI Abaga, who gifted us two albums last year, has plans of blessing us with yet another in 2019. We couldn’t have asked for this much. It is like a refrigerator stocked full of groceries, you believe there’s no space. But you know what? There’s always space for chicken, and milk, and…well, never mind. Aṣa throwing her own Album in the mix gives it a whole new taste, and you know it.

It’s been five years since we last heard anything new from one of Nigeria’s most loved and respected artiste. Five years! You don’t really understand how long ago that is, do you? Well, let me help you put it in perspective. Two elections have been held: lost, won, and won again (It’s Next Level era, friends). Two World Cups have been watched and forgotten. 13 year-olds then are very legal now (Hello, Regina Daniels :) ). And, to say the least, Bobrisky, who was relatively unknown to us at the time, has now become a household name. I know, I know, it doesn’t still seem like a lot but do you remember exactly what you were doing in 2014? Mny of us stl typd lyk dis.

Aṣa'S Album

Anyway, the pop-jazz goddess will drop the album anytime now as she has only recently dropped a single, The Beginning, and an accompanying video with the same title as the forthcoming album and fans all over the internet are ecstatic. How come she left us so thirsty for her vocal and lyrical spring all these years? Bed of Stone aged well as did Asha and Beautiful Imperfection. Yet, we still yearn for more. As we hold our breaths and count our steps in wait for yet another beautiful work of art from Aṣa, we’ll reflect on all the ways she made us feel and all the times she made us proud.

In the end, most really good delicacies take time to prepare, don’t they? I guess that’s all the explanation we can get and that’s all we’ll ever need from her anyway.
