The National Identity Management Commission has revealed some of the benefits of having a National Identification Number, NIN.
According to the Commission, subscribers have many things to benefit by obtaining their NIN in line with the federal government’s directive announced by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami.
NIN is a set of eleven numbers assigned to an individual after completing the enrolment into the National Identity Database.
Benefits Of National Identification Number
The benefits listed by the NIMC includes
1.Verifying the identity of an individual
2.Accessing Government welfare benefits
3.Opening Bank accounts and other financial transactions
4.Registration for National Examinations
5.Obtaining your enhanced e-passport, drivers licences among others
6.Management of new and existing retirement saving account, RSA
7.Having NIN improves access to credit
Meanwhile, the NIMC has described NIN as subscribers’ assured digital identity.
The commission described the NIN as non-transferable, a means of verifying subscribers’ identity and an identity that does not expire.
In the meantime, the NIMC has announced that the old National Identity Card has since been discontinued, holders of the old ID card were asked to enrol for the National Identification Number, NIN by visiting NIN enrolment centre.
