It is another holiday season! If you check the number of public holidays in a calendar year, then you’ll see there are chances to spend time with your family if you are the busy type. Business-oriented people may argue that it is a loss for the economy as the Stock Exchange Market is closed for these days but it is positive for the workers (and their families) if used well.
Here are some ideas of what you could do during the holidays. Please note that this will also benefit you as we approach the festive periods.
Go sight-seeing
There are many locations you could visit all over the country with your family and friends during the holiday. Nigeria is blessed with a great landscape with beautiful natural habitats. Notable places you could tour in the country include Obudu Cattle Ranch (Calabar), Mambilla Plateau (Adamawa), Ikogosi Warm Spring (Ekiti), The Confluence (Kogi), Olumo Rock (Ogun), Benue Hills (Benue) and so on. You’ll definitely enjoy the beautiful scenery in these places. Make sure you visit with a camera to capture the beauties of nature in these locations.
See movies
This time affords you to bond well with your family, spouses, and friends. Visiting a cinema to see the latest blockbuster movies is not a bad idea after all the Nigerian movie industry has improved tremendously in recent years. Nollywood movies that relate to this time and age are available in Cinemas. Silverbird Gallery (Lagos), Cinema House (Akure), and various Shoprite centers with cinema houses all over the country is a place to catch some fun with people.
Mountaineering & Hiking
You may need to burn some excess fat accumulated or stretch your limbs and get fit by climbing mountains with friends or go on a long walk with your family. Staying glued to the screen 24/7 may harm you in the long run, going out and sharing some time with friends and family isn’t a bad idea. There are many hills and mountains you could visit all over the country for this purpose. Obudu (Cross River), Udi Hills (Enugu), Benue Hills (Benue), Olumo Rock (Ogun), Idanre Hills (Ondo), are a few of the places you could visit.
Picnicking
You can have the trust of your loved ones once more by going on an excursion or outing with them by carrying food items that can be shared in the open air. Eating with the family is a common thing to do, you could break from the norm by eating outdoor in relaxation centers and beaches. Places such as Fajuyi Memorial Park (Ekiti), Agodi Gardens (Oyo), Abraka Trust & Country Club (Delta), Yankari National Park (Bauchi) are popular places to visit. There are 30 beaches across the 36 states of Nigeria. Notable among them are La Campagne Tropicana (Lagos), Calabar Beach (Cross River), Ifoko Beach (Port Harcourt), Patigi Beach (Niger), Ibeno Beach (Akwa Ibom), Ndibe Sand Beach (Ebonyi), Elegushi Beach (Lagos), and so on.
Rest at home
If you are the ‘on-the-road’ type, then the holiday is an avenue to rest at home with your family. Why not let your kids be familiar with your postures (sitting, standing, sleeping and so on)? If it is very rare for you to stay at home from morning to night, why not try and break the jinx by having a nice time indoor with your family.
Do have a nice time with your family this holiday. Thanks for reading this piece.
