Five people have reportedly been abducted after a wedding procession in Anambra State as gunmen launched an attack on the guests while they were leaving the premises of the event.
The kidnapping was confirmed by the Anambra State Police Command as it was said that the guests were on their way home from after joining to witness the traditional rites before the sad incident transpired.
Deputy Superintendent of Police, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, who released a statement to this note, gave the assurance that security operatives in the area have launched a rescue operation to safely secure the release of the victims and ensure they return to their families unfarmed.
The victims, he said, were kidnapped at about 10:00pm and as at the time of filing this report, there was no lead yet on the whereabout of the abductees and any trace of the perpetrators of the crime.
Part of the press release hinted that, “The guests (names withheld) were kidnapped at gunpoint at about 10pm on the Akpo-Nkpologwu Road in Aguata Local Area of Anambra,” adding that “About 15 of the them were returning to the hotel from Achina, the venue of the marriage, in a convoy of three vehicles when they ran into the abductors, but only the first car was able to escape.”
