Four cemetery workers are in police custody after being caught digging a grave of a newly buried corpse in Ondo State.
The cemetery workers identified as Adewale Abiodun, Akinola Sunday, Oluwadare Idowu and a man simply identifeid as Olomofe were arrested by the Ondo State police command recently in possession of four severed heads of male corpses and another female head.
The arrest was made after the suspects were seen by family member digging the grave of their recently buried relative on their way to cover that same grave with concrete.
The family members said, with the way they were digging the gave, the suspects’ intension was to exhume the body.
The people who were in deep shock about how the cemetery workers could already be digging the grave of a body buried few hours ago, got a bigger surprise when they discovered that there were five severed heads with them already.
These prompted the family members to raise an alarm and invited the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, who took the four cemetery workers into custody.
When the State Police Public Relations Office, PPRO, Tee-Leo Ikoro was speaking on the arrest of the cemetery workers, he confirmed the incident, stressing that thorough investigation has began into the case.
According to the PPRO, the Ondo State police command will ensure that the other members of the syndicate would be arrested and the case seen to a logical conclusion.
“ The ongoing investigation will reveal everything, particularly other members of the gang. From what we found out, that was not the first time. It is something that have been doing; it is a routine.”
The incident has sent worries to the minds of the state residents, especially those whose relatives were buried at the cemetery where the suspects were arrested with severed heads of newly buried bodies.
