2021 Budget: How ICPC Discovers Fake Projects Worth over N20bn

2021 budget examined by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, shows some high level of inappropriate financial inclusions.

The assessment revealed that about one hundred and fifty-seven thousand projects included in the appropriation bill were fake due to multiple reappearances.

Several Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MDAs were uncovered to have duplicated countless projects to the sum of over twenty billion naira.

According to the Chairman of the anti-graft agency, Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye, he placed the exact fraudulently included funds at N20.138 billion, an act which has been in practice in Nigeria.

He disclosed this at the 3rd National Summit on Diminishing Corruption in Public Sector in Abuja yesterday.

MDAs Under Investigations for Fraud in 2021 Budget

Owasanoye reported that the Ministry of Labour and Employment, plus the University College Hospital, UCH, Ibadan, have been flagged for carrying out illegal employment.

Owasanoye added that the agency tracked 1083 projects across the country, excluding Borno and Zamfara. He explained that the anti-graft agency ensured the completion of 966 of the projects worth N310b.

However, the ministry said the ICPC was merely “rehashing an old development” which it ought to have completed its investigation.
