2021 Budget: FG To Sale Government-Owned Property

The Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed, has disclosed plans by the Federal government to sale off some government-owned properties including non-oil assets.

Speakings during a virtual budget presentation ceremony on Tuesday, January 12, Ahmed said the federal government would sale the assets to fund the 2021 budget.

According to her, the revenue generated from the sale of these assets will be used to fund the deficit of the 2021 budget.

However, the Minister did not state the assets to be sold, nor the expected revenue from the sales of the assets.

It was gathered that the federal government planned to concede the National Arts Theatre, Tafawa Balewa Square, and all the River Basin Development Authorities at N836 million.

Also, the National Stadium in Lagos, the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja, and two others were pegged for concessioning at N100 million.

You will recall that the Bureau of Public Enterprise had in November 2020 disclosed that the Federal government plans to sell the Integrated Power Plants in Geregu, Omotosho, and Calabar.

According to a document presented to the Senate Committee on Privatization, the Nigerian government would sale the power plants at N434 billion in 2021.
