20 Things I Wish We Were Taught In Secondary School

Share

Secondary school (or high school as our American cousins call it) was a trip full of high and lows. Looking back now it’s crazy to think that at some point we were taking as much as 17 subjects and some of us still went back home to lesson teachers who taught us some of the rudiments of those subjects over again. It’s debatable whether some of the knowledge we learnt back then have been useful, but i do believe there are some things that will have helped us transition better into adulthood which were (and are still missing) from our education curriculum.

Here are the things i wish we were taught:

  1. Social Media and Your Mental Health
  2. Internships: A Modern Slavery
  3. Making Friends As An Adult
  4. Cleanliness and You: The Study of Personal Hygiene
  5. The Convergence of Love And Sex
  6. Interpreting Family Relationships
  7. How To Date Many People Before Committing To Marriage
  8. Adult-Onset Body Image Issues
  9. Balancing A Work Life and A Social Life
  10. The Wonders of Travel
  11. All your friends will move to Canada; How to deal with it 101
  12. Career Change in Nigeria’s Unstable Economy
  13. Kindness: A Gentle Analysis
  14. Healthy Meal Planning
  15. Mental Health Guide For a Crazy Country
  16. Body Maintenance
  17. Finance Organization
  18. Managing Unemployment
  19. Maintaining A Savings Account
  20. How Not To Make the same Mistakes Your Parents Made.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like these courses will be introduced anytime soon. So guess y’all will have to wait till i become minister of education or till the godfathers in politics decide it’s time to let a young person become president.
