The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU reacts to the Federal Government’s approval to establish 20 new private universities.
Chairman of the University of Jos Chapter of ASUU, Dr Lazarus Maigoro, made the call in an interview with NAN on Thursday in Jos and tasked the varsities with ensuring that they provide quality education.
The Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Wednesday approved 20 new private universities in the country.
The 20 new private universities approved private universities include Mudiame University, Irrua, Maranatha University, Mgbidi, Thomas Adewumi University, Oko-ffaIrese, Al-Istiqama University, Sumaila, Ave Maria University, Piyanko and Topfaith University, Mkpatak.
Also approved are Karl-Kumm University, Vom, Claretian University of Nigeria, Nekede, NOK University, Kachia, Ahman Pategi University, Pategi, Capital City University, Kano, Havilla University, Nde-Ikom, Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria, Kano, and James Hope University, Lagos.

Others include Anan University, Kwall, Edusoko University, Bida, Khadija University, Majia, Mewar University, Masaka, Philomath University, Kuje, and the University of Offa, Offa.
Maigoro also said that some universities are to blame for haphazard standards and many half-baked graduates in Nigerian society today.
He further charged the Federal Government and other relevant agencies to monitor universities with appropriate mechanisms to ensure high standards.
