Nigerias Minister for Humanitarian Affairs, Sadiya Umar Farouq has explained the Federal Governments intention to make the National Social Register (NSR) a lot more interactive.
The NSR is a database of poor and vulnerable households in Nigeria which can be useful for accuracy of interventions and other activities.
Farouq said on Tuesday that the government would endeavour to establish increased collaborations among stakeholders concerned with poverty alleviation, social protection and humanitarian interventions.

According to her, it is estimated that there are 82.9 million Nigerians living under the poverty line, and out of this number, the government has identified and proceeded to register 26.8 million of these individuals. This number is equivalent to about 6.3 million households.
The next target is 20 million Nigerians among the urban informal workers who have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Farouq made clear that the NSR is imperative for social development initiatives, and also to provide a necessary database for interventions.
