The Delta state government has announced that 2 delta state officials have hested positive for COVID-19.

Mr Olisa Ifeajika who is the chief press secretary to the Delta state governor made this known on Sunday to newsmen in the state capital, Asaba.

Both of the Delta state officials are understood to have participated actively in the state’s COVID-19 task force by providing the residents of the state with information on the Delta State COVID-19 situation.

The Delta state officials who tested positive were said to have been showing mild symptoms of the virus, at which time they were then tested and found to be positive. They were then moved to an isolation centre in the state where they are presently undergoing treatment but are said to be in stable condition.

Mr Olisa Ifeajika in his statement called on the residents of the state to adhere strictly to all measures put in place by the government in order to contain the spread of the virus as it is very contagious.

The statement reads in part, “Let me advise all Deltans to, as a matter of top priority, always obey the COVID-19 protocols, which have been in the public domain, so as to curb further spread of the pandemic. The fresh cases in our hands in Delta further testifies to the fact that COVID-19 is not a scam. It is real and people should take the issues of the virus and personal hygiene seriously.

“COVID-19 is not a death sentence; so, when you begin to feel unwell, reach out to approved government hospitals for appropriate tests to be carried out. We can save ourselves and others from this virus if we obey all the protocols of wearing face masks, regular washing of hands in running water, use of alcohol-based sanitisers and maintaining physical-distancing while congregating in any form.”

The chief press secretary also informed the general public that all the government hospitals and isolation centres in the state are working 24 hours every day to fight against the coronavirus and any other health problems.

Delta state has confirmed 501 cases of the coronavirus as at the latest NCDC figures released on the 21st June, with 360 of those still admitted, 124 discharged and 17 dead to the virus.
